A brief report of the 2002 Festival
by Debbie Stanton

Well folks, that winds up another festival and apart from the weather, which wasn't as bad as predicted, it all went rather well.
155 delegates from 9 different countries gathered at Fawley Court in beautiful Henley on Thames for four days of fun and dollmaking.
The event was organised by Debbie Stanton of M.Wanke (UK)Ltd, Dollmaking Supplies in Hastings in collaboration with the Doll Artisan Guild of America and The Global Doll Society. Dollmakers from America, Japan, Sweden and GB presented a wide range of hands-on workshops. Plus there were two top class competitions to enter with internationally renowned judges.
The emphasis for this event is toward FUN and friendship through dolls. Apart from the dollmaking activities and competitions there was a Line Dancing Western evening and even a fishing competition for the long suffering "doll husbands"!
In addition to this there was the magnificent tombola with over 50 gifts from the generous dollmakers attending the Festival. This eventually raised £835 for Fawley Court's charity to help sick children. There was also an extra raffle for a 1st edition "Jeannine" doll donated by Jeannine Scard to raise funds for the Rowan Cancer Hospice in Portsmouth. This hospice cared for everyones dollmaking friend, Jayne Louise Elliott, who sadly passed away on 15th May. The raffle raised £320
Next years event promises to be even better and is scheduled for 8th to 11th MAY. So make a note in your diary today.

The festival at Henley is a residential event held exclusively
for members of The Global Doll Society and Doll Artisan Guild
