Established by Carol Ann Stanton , Debbie Stanton & Matthias Wanke in 1982, it was the first club to offer an opportunity to original artists to gain recognition for their work. Many of todays top artists had their first exposure through the G.D.S. competition. The competition has sections for reproduction antiques , modern artists and original artists working in different media . There is a comprehensive Teachers accredtiation system within the G.D.S. It is based on merit gained through reccommendations and competition results. Once Platinum Dollmaker status has been achieved (this is the highest award) the recipient can retire from competition and be eligible for selection as a judge. The adminisration for the G.D.S. is now organised by our chapter system . However, the club is very much run by the members, for the members. This is largely due to it's "chapter " membership system and localised events. There are many national and international chapters.
